My first post must be an apology. Though I still may be somewhat impressionable, I was way, way, way more easily-swayed when I was a junior in college. Watching Obama's pleas for presidential election, I figured he was super well-spoken. Was I even listening to what he was saying? Was I even considering he was just well-trained in reading a teleprompter? Was I even considering my own opinions, rather than being influenced by the hype of "Yes We Can" and the excitement of breaking the barriers on the president's race? No, no, no. So, for that, I apologize.
It has only been a handful of years since my regretful vote, but I have certainly tapped into my real views, not my influenced, malleable opinions. I've learned to find information on my own, and not by listening to "seasoned" communicators. I've been told a lot of people regret their vote for Barack. Maybe that's true, maybe it's not. But I would like to cordially apologize.
Ok, I'm done with my apology. Another thing I've learned: you can't change the past. The Serenity Prayer. I'm accepting I can't change my vote, but I'm taking the opportunity to start fresh, and apparently to blog about my amateur/valuable (I'm starting to gain confidence, too!) political views.
Enjoy.
America the Beautiful indeed! As for your past vote, there is no more need for apology, many voters of all ages were swayed by this man's seeming care and admiration for "The United States of America". But as you are now coming to realize, the United States that Obama envisions is not that at all, in fact, he has envisioned changing what has for over 200 years been a beacon of Freedom into something vastly different. "Yes we can?" That begs the question, "yes we can, what?" Give control of our destiny into the hands of a liberal elite who do not innovate and creat jobs, but that seek to steal and plunder the fortunes of those that do? Or speaking to the middle class (of which I am a member), "yes we can" create an environment where our employers cannot hire us for fear of having to pay an endless stream of future and previously illegal taxes? As a conservative, I thank you for having begun to read and acknowledge the facts. As a fellow American who also believes in the beauty of the true United States of America, please allow your regret for voting for Obama to be tempered by the fact that you were fed a steady stream of blatant lies by a man who knew that, to get your vote, needed you to believe he was not interested in plundering both your future earnings and your prospects of success. All this fellow conservative will oblige you to do is keep reading and studying the principles that made this country great. Continue to formulate your own opinions, and keep your vision of the great country in which you would like to raise your children. Is it one in which your son or daughter can team with others of like mind and create their own desiny by virtuous action and mindful pursuit? Or is it one in which politicians can invade our lives and impose some twisted form of government will? As you further your own development as a person, I emplore you to continue thinking about the true facts (to whatever extent your informed reason deems true), and formulate your own opinions. You are now part of the same informed electorate that the founding fathers knew was absolutely essential to the continued freedom of any people. America will remain beautiful because of the courage of people like you.
